There was not such good news for the continuing saga of glucosamine (an amino sugar naturally occurring in the human body) which is one of the most popular dietary supplements used for cartilage health and arthritis. Recently, European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) concluded that "a cause and effect relationship has not been established between the consumption of glucosamine and maintenance of normal joint cartilage in individuals without osteoarthritis." (This report was the result of Merck Consumer Healthcare requesting an opinion on health benefits of glucosamine.)
